Today I was pleased to present at ASQ in downtown Milwaukee. I was invited to discuss the topic “Exercising without a gym or equipment”.
We always hear things like “You must do strength training” or “You can reduce osteoporosis, arthritis, ect. With strength training” and more, BUT sometimes we fail to help people HOW to do these things. Today we focused on how to exercise without going to a gym or needing equipment to still maintain the benefits of strength training. It was really great for the employees who live on-the-go lifestyles, don’t have time or access to a gym, or who are traveling frequently with minimal time or facilities to exercise.
I really love the Lunch and Learns and showing knowledge that I learned in exercise physiology at Marquette, information from my certifications, and from the continuing learning and education I’m constantly doing. It’s great to get in to a new audience that I would typically never meet and teach new lessons regarding health, fitness, strength training, running and fitness. What I always find fascinating is how much information and resources I take for granted!
In about 40 slides and 35 minutes, we covered the following agenda today:
I. Meet Nicole & Momentum
II. Strength Training :
- Why should we strength train?
- How to get started?
- What equipment is worth buying for my home gym?
- What are Sets & Reps?
- How often should I do this? And when should I change the workout
III. Momentum’s Introduction to Strength and Exercise Workout Plan Review
IV. Bonus: Extra Videos and Links to additional workouts
VI. Go home & Get Buff 😉
Thanks for hosting me ASQ! The next Lunch and Learn series I’m hosting is in two weeks at the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology on the topic of “BMI vs. Body Fat Percentage: What do these numbers mean and how can we lower them?”. Can’t wait!
